Seize Your Self-Awareness
Awareness comes from interaction with your world.
Everyone gathers information from the world around them. Everyone has their own unique degree of awareness. This uniqueness is determined in large part by the ‘filters’ that regulate our perception.
If you’re always angry, the world is an angry place. If you’re filled with self-pity, the world will constantly give you reasons to feel sorry for yourself.
These are just two examples of the many different kinds of filters you can put on your awareness.
We all have filters of one kind or another. What are yours? For example, do you look at the world through love or fear?
How aware are you?
Awareness is the starting point for personal value. It’s also the starting point for any and all success. You must be aware of what’s going on around you, if you want value and its logical progression… success.
Can you see what’s happening in your life? Your world is always giving you feedback. Can you hear the whispers? Big problems always start out as little problems, for example.
To build value, be aware of the impact you have.
While it’s very important to be aware of what’s going on around you, it’s even more important to be aware of the impact you have on what’s going on around you.
Impact changes things.
Your impact is changing the world.
Everywhere you go, you change things. Wherever you are right now, you are changing – both yourself and the world around you. Look at the room you’re in. It’s different because you are there. It wouldn’t be the same without you.
The first step in building your personal value is to accept your impact.
You are not a passive observer. You are a participant in life. Everyone is a participant. There are no spectators. If you exist, then you have impact.
What kind of impact do you have?
Do you command respect from others? Do you spread good cheer? Are people glad to see you come, or are they glad to see you go?
What do you think people say about you, behind your back? (Believe me, they are talking you!)
How much impact do you have?
It varies widely from person to person. Some people are having an enormous impact on the world around them. Others do everything they can to minimize their impact.
A lot of people just don’t want to make waves, because of one fear or another. And of course, many never give a thought to their impact at all, whether it’s good or bad, a little or a lot.
It’s normal to be afraid of impact. It’s even more normal to not want to dwell on it. Many times it’s just not very pleasant to think about the effect we have had on others.
But to build your personal value, the first step is to accept and then relish the impact you have on the people you encounter.
You are valuable because you have impact.
Let it in. Accept that you have impact. Let it be important. Impact is not a curse.
Impact is a gift to be developed and then directed.
You can have any kind of impact you want. Want to make a difference in the world? You already are!
Your very existence is changing the world. That is valuable.
